A flash drive and system memory are two entirely different things. A flash drive is a portable storage device (like a hard drive, in concept, not mechanics). RAM: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm According to my research, a 945 graphics chipset has similar performance to the nVidia 5700 Go, which would be pushing the envelope of playability for SGW as we know it so far.

As a curiosity, how does Vista run on that machine?

But with Vista, a flash drive works as a type of memory it calls ReadyBoost. Read about it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost).

Indeed. Sorry for the confusion... Using ReadyBoost, it acts like RAM. Its not a substitute for physical RAM, but its a good, and cheap, way to upgrade. :p

Vista runs great, as far as I can tell. Its been using Vista for as long as i've had it, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Yeah, I am worried about the graphics card. I still hope I can get a desktop before SGW release.

Neato- didn't know about that. Seems like a pretty cool concept- really helps with the older PCs. I can't believe OEMs would sell Vista on PCs with 512 MB of RAM.

Just finished my build at the top of the page. Pretty excited to see what this thing can do!

I just ordered this machine Friday night, I should have it by late next week. I'm currently running an Athlon 64 3200 with an Asus MoBo, 2GB Corsair XMS RAM, Thermaltake Xaser V case, 2 HD's at 200GB storage, and an XFX GeForce 8800 GTS XXX Edition 640MB DDR3 PCI Express Video Card w/Dual DVI & HDTV-Out. I'll be moving the Video card into the system below and then putting a lighter vid card for the wife to use the above machine for her scrap booking and internet perusing. I ordered everything above and below from ZipZoomFly.com.

CPU: INTEL Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 GHz 1333 MHz 775 6MB

Hard Drives: #1. WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar GP 750GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB Buffer
#2. WESTERN DIGITAL VelociRaptor 300GB SATA II 10,000 RPM 16MB Buffer

RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR with DHX Technology TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 4GB PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066) DDR2 Memory

MoBo: ASUS P5N72-T Premium nVidia nForce 780i SLI Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium/Pentium Extreme Socket 775 1600 MHz PC2-9600 (DDR2-1200) ATX Motherboard

Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatality Pro Series (got this because it's got onboard RAM that will keep my machine from lagging due to high quality sound, not that this machine should lag)

PSU: Corsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power Supply

Case: COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Mid Tower Case

DVD Burners: SAMSUNG 22X SATA DVD Burner w/ Lightscribe , SAMSUNG 22X SATA DVD Burner

Extras: PATRIOT 4GB Xporter XT 150X USB 2.0 Pen Drive

2nd Monitor: (I already have a 22" Viewsonic) VIEWSONIC 22in 16:10 2ms LCD Monitor 1000:1 300 cd/m2 Black

You're drooling on your keyboard, close your mouth. =P

Edit: Power Supply crapped out after a few days on a particularly hot day, so I added 4 more 120mm case fans and RMA'd the PSU. Already have the new one and it's running great!

I need to look at upgrading my MB and video cards sometime. And the monitor might be big but I still think I could use some more space to put more windows up to view.

30" monitor and a 256MB video card? Must strugle to run new games at full res lol

Vilneas
09-08-2008, 13:41
Fixed. It runs games real good. I just don't use stuff like shadows and would turn things down on raids.

Rocki
09-08-2008, 13:42
So no, not on full res :)

Have the same problem myself when I try to run both my monitors at the same time

Vilneas
09-08-2008, 13:57
I can run the monitor at 2560x1600 or 1280x 800 . I have run EQ2 at near full settings minus shadows and a few little effects that I didn't like at 2560x 1600 and only get lag in cities. I didn't play a caster so I didn't want all the casting visuals that could tax my system. I could run 2 more sticks of ram if the MB wasn't going to crap :( I think with SGW I will run it at 1900x1200 I think
